Burrum Heads, Queensland

On the river looking toward the Heads.

What a beautiful and relaxing place Burrum Heads is. Good fishing here it seems, with plenty of boating available, on the river, or beyond into the ocean toward the adjacent and mighty Fraser Island. Or just laze about enjoying the temperate and most pleasant conditions in the thick of Winter.

Effectively, Burrum Heads marks the northern end of the Hervey Bay region, with the village of Urangan (a key access point to the tourist and wilderness destination of Fraser Island) designating the southern end of this wide bay. The tidal range is very apparent here, with a local informing me it was in the order of 5 metres. See pictures below of how expansive these sandbanks are at low tide.

A few beached boats on low tide looking upstream on the river at Burrum Heads. Notice the ‘parked’ keel boat in the background. Not sure what is going on there? Is it the marine version of an abandoned joy-rider?
