Lots to sea. Day 5. 20180502

OK, I had to get a picture of our ship. One can get a bit fond of our home away from home. She is majestic, awe-inspiring, so self-contained, such amazing engineering, so many fine and important staff members supporting us holiday-makers and tourists. All the while the staff are efficient, patient, helpful, diligent, while we the passengers can just cruise along. And cruise she has, with very calm seas on the PNG leg, although now a steady 2m swell or so, with the consistent and gentle swaying present for the past day. No drama, just an awareness, yes we are at sea.

Tonight’s ‘British Invasion’ stage show was just fine and dandy. British music from the 60’s and 70’s. Short and sharp entertainment with marvellous songs and lovely vocals. The music of that era was pretty special, at least those of us of that vintage tend to believe so. Young (Sir) Joey Yates from Kansas also explains so, and much of his ‘by request’ repertoire is from that time. So pleased he was willing to play ‘While my guitar gently weeps’ on the piano, and prior ‘Vincent’. Most enjoyable, so talented.

Choosing a cabin on the port side is always helpful when circumnavigating a land mass in an anti-clockwise direction. We are looking forward to observing so much more, including the fascinating Torres Straight in coming days. There is always something to see from the balcony, including dawn breaking this morning as per below. Our balcony can be seen on the image above, being on the second highest accommodation level visible, second balcony from the front (near the extended bridge observation area port side). Our steward just confirmed his sleeping quarters are on level two, well below the water-line, no port-holes!

Food as usual is just fine, and just as usual, the temptation to eat more, and more dessert persists. We focus on moderating and usually fail. Perhaps the alcohol is more easily moderated as a belly full on board does not always work in tandem with a rolling ship.

Tomorrow is Cairns and we are pleased to learn we are docking right in town, so we will be walking the township on our imminent visit. We had anticipated anchoring at Yorkey’s Knob, to tender in, but perhaps there has been a fortunate change in plan.
