Uluru is simply stunning. It is indeed a wonderous and majestic natural wonders of this precious planet Earth. Positioned in its very central place in the heart of the continent of Australia, it dominates the adjacent landscape, as it emerges so boldly, so powerfully and so serenely from the relative flat lands that surround it for kilometres in all directions. Whether approaching it rapidly via plane, more slowly via motor vehicle or walking in its vast size around its perimeter, it seems impossible to be unmoved emotionally by its magnificence.
Now more than ever, Uluru is a sacred monument, of great cultural significance to the First Nations people who have lived in its vicinity for tens of thousands of years. To be respected now and safeguarded within the Uluru and Kata Tjuta National Park. To be honoured now by the johhny-come-lately whitefellas, who no longer climb and desecrate its sanctity.
Now the whitefella is permitted to admire it, to be fascinated and moved by its changing colours and being rendered miniscule by its size, its relative permanence and mass.
For those Australians who have not yet done so, Uluru is a must see. If privilege and opportunity permits, its is almost a rite of passage to have been here. To those from over the seas, we know you will be welcomed here too, when you too can be subject to this truly natural wonder.
