From a place we have used as a hub for several weeks as we have explored the Kimberley, to a place we have visited for half a day on a cruise. And to fly over the wilderness we have experienced on the ground with so much joy. This flight and the NT exploring that follows is going to be more fun. Hopefully there are some good images or anecdotes to share by day’s end. Till then, time to pack, and bid farewell to Broome, and Western Australia. Not sure when we will be back, but we have loved your company.
Best laid plans. Then flight to Darwin cancelled. Sit tight. Could wait two days for next flight. Or with 40 minutes notice, get to the airport, fly to Perth, and connect three hours later to Darwin. So we did. Here we are now in Perth. Thanks to the wonderful receptionist at our hotel who drove us to Broome airport, given we could not wait the time for a taxi. Oh well, hopefully it will all work out in the end, just arriving in Darwin at 1am rather than the planned 6pm.
So only photo for today is exiting Broome. Got cheeky and rested phone by window over my dozing neighbour. Not great quality folks but nice images of the airport, the town, Cable Beach, the port where our cruise ship docked many weeks ago, and Roebuck Bay on the east side, where the midges bite. Somewhere down there is also that intrepid green tree frog. Maybe we will meet some of his mates in the NT …
So late arrival into Darwin, where the airport was a hive of activity with many flights arriving late from the south. Eventually in bed around 2am local time, having lost 1.5 hours per time adjustment. Had a very smooth flight and enjoyed ttheĀ amenities on the Qantas flight, including free wifi and access to other multimedia. The 3 hour flight went quickly accordingly. So a strange day concluded, and in Darwin in time to start our NT adventure on time, including a sunset tour on Darwin harbour this evening.
Also enjoyed the very intriguing documentary on Gurumul, the blind indigenous musician who sadly passed away earlier this year. A very thought provoking and emotional insight into his life, his culture, his values, his challenges, and more. As explained, he was the opposite of what an aspiring star would be, being more interested in his culture and extended family, his homeland, no interest in money, but so committed to his music and his spirituality. His whitefella friend wa also very inspiring too.
