Travelled by coach from Denali to Anchorage. The clear highlight was visiting the Alaskan Husky dog kennels set up and run by Martin Buser who won the famous Iditarod race four times. We also met Sue Allen there (completed and finished the Iditarod twice) and young and up and coming Iditarod participant Chad Stoddard, all being known as Iditarod dog mushes. That race, which starts in Willow every March and ends in Nome, Alaska, is truly an extreme endurance race, incorporating mental toughness and resilience, athleticism and fitness, and importantly, compassion and dedication toward to dogs that propel the sleds and make the race. We look forward to tracking Chad’s fortunes in March 2026. What a fine, informative, humble and impressive young man.

On this same day trip, we stopped into the quaint tourist town of Talkeetna, being on the railway from Denali. Aside from being a very friendly town with many items for tourists, it is famous for having a cat as mayor. Now second generation, it lives in the General Store, as below.

Once in Anchorage, we explored at our own leisure. Had a wonderful steak in one of the restaurants first evening there. Followed the last night by a fun evening meal and reminiscing with our tour group. Then it was time to head our separate ways the next morning, as we left Anchorage.
The flight out of Anchorage was spectacular as we flew over some many snow capped mountains and glaciers below.
And for a moment we thought we had spotted Mt Denali (20,300 feet high) as below. Or we probably did not, as we checked our expected flight path later. Nevertheless, what we saw below was prominent!
