Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada

After a fair drive from Sun Peaks to Lake Louise, and now in the adjacent province of Alberta to the east, we have had an amazing drive through the various mountains of western Canada, and now in The Rockies. A fine day mostly so able to enjoy the spectacular view along the way, of soaring mountains, steep faces, and leftover snow and some glaciers visible.

Many of the towns we travelled through in the valleys, being escorted by the railways to the left and right of us, are surrounded by these huge peaks. We saw many long trains, huge lakes and many rivers and streams, with many of the waterways stained with the ‘glacial flour’ arising from the churn of the ‘feeder’ glaciers, leaving the water a soft turquoise or light teal green.

Tomorrow we look forward to hearing about the areas indigenous history and culture, and taking on a hike to the nearby glacial area. Of course, there is the challenge too of an early morning dip into the very cool waters of Lake Louise. Hopefully my ego and arousal management skills will allow success without harm.

Otherwise, it is nice to get to know our fellow travellers better, relax more, and allow the friendliness of the Canadians to be truly appreciated. What a fine country Canada appears to be.

OK, next day a long 11km return trip hike to the back of Lake Louise as illustrated below. Quite strenuous with the first leg almost all uphill.

And thankfully no interactions with bears but plenty of small animals including the following:

And more views on the walk out the back of Lake Louise.

Picture from hotel room, early morning. Thanks Karen!
