Cervantes and the Pinnacles. Day 1. 20180514

Day started with being picked up in Perth CBD and taken for breakfast in South Perth on the Swan River. Then to pick up our trusty camper to start our road-trip north up the coast of Western Australia.

Many thanks to our young family friend who was so kind and we wish you well with your future plans.

Once beyond the city limits, our drive was very pleasant and uneventful, but with spectacular views of the Turquoise Coast starting with a short visit to the hamlet of Lancelin, then to the Pinnacles Desert Park, then arriving at Cervantes to set up our first ‘camp’. Lots of fun getting our camper organised in a small space, and too many clothes. No food yet so had a snack for lunch and went out for tea.

Now planning for the very spectacular Kalbarri region tomorrow for three nights, and some solid hiking in tough terrain. So far so good, just need to get to bed earlier. Bye for now.

The beach at Lancelin, just a comfortable drive north of Perth.
The sand dunes were prominent in the latter part of today’s drive to Cervantes. Lovely white colour, in among the low-lying scrub prevalent in this area.
The Pinnacles. Worth a look although we did not linger. Able to drive around but we chose not to take our camper on the sand, as many others were in appropriate vehicles.
More Pinnacles. I guess if one dwells long enough and contemplates, the place certainly has some special qualities of serenity, timeliness and patience.
Just by our caravan park watching the sun go down and chatting to a couple who had driven from Shepparton Victoria. May see them next in Kalbarri too.

Lots of fishing boats in this area and plenty of rock lobster, some of which I sampled at tea, but best next to not eat at restaurant prices!
