Leaving downtown, heading toward Stanley Park.
So, after a significant sleep in, after being awake in the wee hours, we thought, let’s circumnavigate the famous Stanley Park in the heart of the city of Vancouver. As we discovered yesterday, there is a seawall cycling and walking track that allows very safe and scenic hiking around this wonderful harbour area.
Soon we set off, stopping for lunch and refreshments at a nice downtown Indian restaurant. Once fed and watered sufficiently, we headed off to do the Stanley Park loop, along with thousands of others, on bikes, scooters and on foot. A very multi-cultural group of enthusiastic tourists enjoying the glorious weather this day, being about 24C with blue skies. Beach day it seemed for many of the locals too.
And while we did not venture into the park proper (will do that on our return), we did enjoy the sights and sounds of the harbour, with active shipping, yachting, sea planes and other pleasure craft out and about on this very fine Saturday.

Looking back to Vancouver Harbour. Our cruise ship beckons in several weeks.

Lions Gate Bridge. To pass under as we sail out of Vancouver.

One fine and large swimming pool in the Stanley Park precinct.
So, we did return to our nice hotel in Vancouver, rather weary after our first hike of this trip. We are rather proud to stay we have walked over 16 km this day. My TP (travelling partner) was a bit tired but we are both recovering after a brief nap.
Now time to decide, early night, or a snack and cocktails? Oh holidays! Nice. Anyway, an early start tomorrow morning, for a short flight to Victoria from where our tour starts on Monday morning Canadian time. Apparently we meet our team group tomorrow evening so that will be interesting. Weather forecast for Victoria tomorrow Sunday is 13-18 C. Sounds OK but a fair bit cooler than today. Being cooler is what we did eventually expect, given where we are headed. But so far, the weather has been very kind. Here’s hoping that can continue.

And for those playing at home, long necked ducks or short necked swans? OK, that was our silly holiday chat, as we learned of course, these are geese!
