Ormiston Gorge – Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Park, NT, Australia

This place was perhaps the highlight of my Red Centre trip. The walking was challenging, with a short out and back trail available, or a long loop requiring a river crossing, else a long walk back. The views were stunning, the swimming pool area exhilarating (yes cool but refreshing) and a beach-like area for a fair expanse where you could hang out for a while. So scenic and something for everyone.

Thankfully we made this our prime venue to visit while travelling the 140km or so from Alice Springs on this day, although if travelling along the unmade road from Kings Canyon, this could be visited on your way to Alice Springs. In any case, this was the best place to visit along the West MacDonnell Ranges, along with Glen Helen Gorge nearby, I would suggest.
