It was certainly an early start as we set off in the dark. Was helped to get up early as the rooster had us awake by 4:30 am. Soon we were rewarded with this beautiful sun rise in southern central NSW.
So many iconic places to pass. Jerilderie, infamous for the Ned Kelly connection. The big sky and expansive plains of the Riverina. Parkes and the famous Dish. Great Aussie movie! Dubbo and the zoo. Coonabarabran and the Warrumbungles (see below). Narrabri (getting tired … ), Moree, and finally Goondiwindi, Qld. We have driven from the south to the north of NSW today. Yes, we are very tired. And yes, we did enjoy our delicious restaurant meal in our accommodation and a few sweet-tooth treats thereafter. Our exercise program resumes again this week-end!
The Warrumbungles are always a highlight for me on this Newell Highway trip. After hundreds of kilometres of relatively flat terrain, these knobbly, ancient giants emerge in the hazy, dusty distance. A lovely and very scenic drive through this district. Like a grounding experience after many k’s to this point. But on we pushed, wondering when or if we will ever see today’s sights again. Such is life!
