Tambo, to Blackall, then Longreach, Queensland, Australia

Tambo Teddies. Shop closed this Sunday, alas, but the teddies are just great. Nice cafe next door for a stopover. Tambo a friendly and safe town. About 200km from Charleville to the south.
Next stop Blackall. Famous for the black stump and historical wool processing. About 300km from Charleville to the south, 100km from Barcaldine in the north.
Longreach. Our end of day destination. Famous for the Stockman’s Hall of Fame and the Qantas museum.
And gateway to the outback. Can pivot to many outback locations from here, in all directions. So many long roads. The heat. Just watch out for the many kangaroos, around dawn and dusk. Best to not drive then, or at night around these parts, unless you have a big bull bar.
The road from Longreach, heading south west to Stonehenge, Jundah then Windorah. Birdsville beckons beyond there.
Qantas museum at Longreach. Got a new roof and a new light show.
Yes. You can get to Longreach by train, with services every other day, to and fro the coast (Rockhampton).
And the nearby Thompson River at Longreach (although it is really a big billabong!).
More Stockman’s.
And goodnight to Longreach.
