Broome transition day 20180605

Today started with an early morning walk on the magnificent Cable Beach. We were not alone but given there is 22 kilometres of gorgeous white smooth sand, so expansive from sand dunes to the water’s edge due to the receding tide, it was most relaxing to just walk out and back. Space to stroll, to run, to cycle, or just contemplate the wide open spaces, the turquoise water, the solitude and welcoming early morning temperate air.

Otherwise today was about preparing for our next adventure, picking up our Mitsubishi Pajero 4WD vehicle, being new with less than 4000 km on the clock. Food shopping, posting excess clothes home, planning our itinerary for next days, and in readiness for an early start tomorrow morning, from Broome to Derby, then we start the Gibb River Road mid-morning.

Meanwhile we have so enjoyed our relative luxury in our current accommodation, being about 600-700m from Cable Beach, and so comfortable and spacious after three weeks in a camper van and shared showering and toilet facilities. We are grateful for the respite, from one star, to four, and soon back to two / three star. Life is good, and we are missing some of the horrible weather that seems to be affecting other parts of Australia further south at this time. Weather is fine and warm during the day, and reasonably cool overnight, with limited humidity.

Broome is now getting busy as the tourist season kicks in so hopefully we can all space out in coming days and enjoy this special part of Australia. That is our plan.

A few kilometres south of the surf club this morning.

Returning to the surf club, with oodles of beach off into the distance.

I love these trees so here’s another picture.

From yesterday evening, there is also the sad tale of the green tree frog in the shower. I shall aim to find some time to describe that experience. Stay tuned!
