Today marks the end of our campervan trip from Perth, over the past three weeks. However, we savoured the last few hours this morning to first admire the lovely sky at sunrise, and after, be fascinated by the haste of the incoming tide, just adjacent to our camp site. You could actually observe the tide trickling in around your feet as we stood some 150m from shore. We also observed early yesterday evening the golden moon just risen to the east over Roebuck Bay, but sadly, just missed its actual ascension over the horizon. Beautiful as the moonshine shimmered across the water and the otherwise dark sky.
Next we enjoyed a short driving tour of Broome and lunched again at lovely Roebuck Bay, with two pictures below, of the incoming tide around the mangroves and the kite-surfer off the beach opposite our just vacated camping site.
By now we had visited the gorgeous Cable Beach, with three images below. I had high expectations but they were exceeded. It is not just iconic but exceedingly impressive and beautiful. We too are fortunate to witness it on such a blue sky and pleasant day, with the tide status revealing so much more of the beautiful white sand. And just for some contrast, the beach to the right does have rocks, to add some interest.
Finally, we returned our camper, checked into our lovely resort and my TP has beaten me to the pool for a swim, before a sunset watch and cool drink on Cable Beach beckoning early this evening.
Is it possible that mangroves love a bit of salt water but appreciate the respite at low tide? Otherwise they would be extending further to sea, maybe? Just fascinating to see how nature adapts, just as we have observed so much plant life in the semi arid desert we have passed in the recent week or so.
These guys are pretty impressive and having lots of fun I would say. The other surfer out of shot actually had a winged keel and was ‘flying’ just like those new catamarans from the America’s Cup. Well I was impressed anyway, and entertained. And such a perfect spot for this sport, with constant breeze and smooth waters.
Our first view of Cable Beach from the Broome Surf Club, who were on duty below. Check out how few tourists there are and so much space. I think it may also be ok in the water this time of the year, although there is still some threat of stingers apparently. Might brave the beach tomorrow but hopefully not get stung. The view to the left, in the middle and then to the right. Broome … a pretty cool place!
Good night from Cable Beach. A large crowd on hand to watch this also iconic process of observing the sunset on Cable Beach, as the sun sinks over the horizon of the Indian Ocean. Of course, the after-glow brightens and continues for some 45 minutes hence.
