Shark Bay day 2. 20180519

Up early to get to Monkey Mia for the first dolphin feeding session for that day. After an easy 22 km trip looking directly into the rising sun, we arrived in plenty of time, joining about another 170 tourists for the show. Much care is provided to keep the tourists at bay, being allowed to wade up to your shins only. In any case, we got very close at times as  these serene creatures cruised in and out of the shallows nearby.

My travelling companion returned for two further sessions and certainly those sessions were better with less people around. Third time round she got to feed one dolphin as invited and was most chuffed. She reminded me this had been on her bucket list to visit the dolphins at MM. Got some close shots and had a wonderful experience. We also witnessed a turtle swimming nearby too but looks like we missed out getting a picture of that.

Clearly there is much marine life in Shark Bay including many tiger sharks and manta rays. Sadly there are still too many feral animals as well on land, as we witnessed as we left Monkey Mia car park, we encountered five feral goats out for a stroll. There are still cats here too including on Dirk Hartog Island although there remain concerted efforts to remove them, as I previously reported.

Now it is back to camp to relax, do the washing, consider a swim later in the day and plan for our next destination of Carnarvon.

For now, I leave you with some Monkey Mia dolphin images.
