Perth Day 16. The cruise ends. 20180513.

This blog’s themes will often aim to ground the day and the mindful contemplation of what has been experienced in terms of gratitude, kindness and joy. This day epitomised each of those feelings as we were most fortunate to be collected, guided, accommodated and fed but two very special young members of our extended family. To both of you, so many thanks, we had a truly wonderful day.

Yes, we probably bored our hosts by how many times we expressed our positive impression of Perth but it is a very attractive, amenable and functional city. Sure, we experienced the more mild weather but nevertheless, we did like Perth.

Our day started in Fremantle, breakfast and coffee there, lunch at Hillary’s on the Northern Beaches, a twilight tour of the magnificent King’s Park, with a sumptuous dinner to finish the day. Then to bed, for our first sleep back on dry land for a fortnight.

A few images of our day are shown below.

Some lovely architecture around Fremantle, reminiscent of those poet towns around Australia from the 19th century, such as Wiliamstown in Victoria and Hobart. Certainly many of the convicts in Fremantle contributed to the construction of this town in that colonial era.
A famous and very attractive icon in Fremantle. No time for lunch or dinner but both would be an occasion I would expect.
The most wonderful King’s Park, overlooking Perth city and the mighty Swan River. As we drove into this park, we travelled through the grand avenue of honour, including a massive and stately stand of ghost gums. For this memorial component in the foreground, I love the engraving and its sentiment.

“Let silent contemplation be your offering”.

The obelisk. Also so grand, as what a backdrop. So worthy. So special. What a grand place I am sure on such days as Anzac Day and Remembrance Day.

Indeed, lest we forget.

Up close. In the fading light. As opposed to the pre-dawn.
The skyline from King’s Park. Lovely city. Interesting city buildings and in the suburbs too. Good roads and freeways with trains down the middle! Great beaches in easy reach. Until next time, a safe and relaxed place to be.
